Helena Lane community centre in Ludlow will be officially opened on Friday 25 January by Stephen Burke, Chief Executive of Counsel and Care, a national charity getting the best support for older people.
Welcoming Mr Burke to the centre, which provides services and facilities for older people and adults with learning disabilities, will be Brian Gillow, Chairman of Shropshire County Council, Barbara Craig, Cabinet member for community services and Liz Nicholson, Interim Director of Community Services.
During the tour of the centre, Mr Burke will meet with managers and frontline staff and have the opportunity to speak to service users, guests, parents and carers who attend the centre.
The event will include displays and demonstrations highlighting the work which takes place at Helena Lane.
Councillor Barbara Craig said: “I am delighted that Stephen Burke will be officially opening Helena Lane. This modern and spacious building provides a wealth of community services and is a wonderful example of how we can provide value for money services for our most vulnerable residents and the wider community.”
The centre, which operated by Shropshire County Council, has a dedicated IT suite where people can get access to computer services, and a café open to members of the public. A hairdressing service is available and room hire for meetings is also offered to community groups at a small cost.
After the tour, Mr Burke will unveil a plaque to officially open Helena Lane.
