Oswestry Library invites you to celebrate the opening of the new library and the national Year of Reading in 2008 by taking part in Oswestry Reads.
The library is working with the Oswestry Advertizer, local schools, colleges, businesses and the health service to encourage everyone to read the same book in 2008.
The book will be selected by the public from a shortlist of five titles which have been carefully chosen to have a wide appeal. The titles are: Framed by Frank Cotterell Boyce; Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo; Prince Caspian by C. S. Lewis; Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden, and The Seeing Stone by Kevin Crossley-Holland.
Councillor Barbara Craig, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Community Services said: “Oswestry Reads is an exciting idea which aims to encourage everyone to read more books and is one of a number of events being planned and organised to celebrate the opening of the new library in 2008."
The Advertizer will feature each title throughout January and the deadline for submitting votes to the library is Saturday 16 February. On World Book Day on 6 March the winner will be announced and then hundreds of copies of the title will be made available around the town in schools, offices, factories, surgeries and the library. There will also be a number of related events.
Anyone who would like to be part of Oswestry Reads can pick up a leaflet at the library, telephone 01691 653211 or email oswestry.library@shropshire.gov.uk
