High grading for Tuition Medical & Behaviour Support Service

The Tuition, Medical & Behaviour Support Service (TMBSS) has recently achieved the highest possible grading, through their Ofsted Inspection. The countywide service, which provides education for pupils with a range of behaviour, emotional and medical difficulties, was graded as outstanding, in all five of the Ofsted Inspection categories.

TMBSS supports around 150 vulnerable children with behaviour, emotional and medical difficulties, and operates out of six education centres from across the county.

The inspectors commented that there were many reasons for the service’s outstanding overall effectiveness; quoting the superb, strong and positive relationships that staff foster with pupils, together with the outstanding care support and guidance shown by all staff to ensure that pupils make rapid progress.

Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful achievement. This service supports some of our most vulnerable children, and this success is a testament to the hard work of children, parents and teachers.”

The service delivers a very high level of engagement with parents, who are delighted with the excellent academic, social and emotional progress their children make. The inspectors singled out teaching and learning throughout the service as outstanding, with all staff having high expectations of pupils, creating a good ethos for learning where pupils feel secure and challenged. The curriculum was seen as outstanding, giving students the opportunity to develop their academic skills, whilst extending opportunities through Outward Bound programmes.
