How to carry out a historical search of the indices of births, deaths and marriages

To carry out a historical search of the indices you must make an appointment with the Registration Service. To do this, telephone 0845 678 9016 (via customer Service Centre), or complete the on-line form attached to book an appointment with us.

All appointments are subject to the availability of staff and must begin by 10.00 am to allow six hours to execute the search. It is not possible for you to book later appointments and complete your six hours searching time on another occasion.

It costs £18 to carry out a search of the indices. This allows you to search the indices for up to six hours. If you require any certificates following your search, there will be a charge applied of £7 per certificate requested. You will be required to make your payment when you attend your appointment.

Please be aware that you will need to travel to a location in Shrewsbury to carry out your searches.
