On 1 April 2009 the 6 Shropshire councils will merge to make one new council delivering services for the whole county. The new council will be called 'Shropshire Council'.

Shropshire Council will bring a number of advantages:

  • Low and sustainable council tax increases
  • Low transitional costs
  • 'One door' to make it easier to access services
  • A greater say for local people
  • More accountable councillors

Councillors and officers from all 6 councils are working together to ensure a smooth transition as the new council begins to take shape.
