Castles and Dragons Education Session

The County Museum Service aims to improve access to its collections in many ways. We are regularly developing new educational programmes for both sites and outreach services.

We would welcome any comments and suggestions from you.

Support for learning
Visits to museums provide both leisure opportunities and learning experiences. Support for both formal education, continuing personal development and lifelong learning are important aspects of our work.

School services
Museums hold major sources of primary evidence required for much of the National Curriculum. Teachers are invited to work with relevant collections and to make free preliminary visits to our museum sites. Children learn best through direct contact with real objects and specimens. Special educational sessions will be offered to schools following the National Curriculum guidelines.

Comments from some of our school visits show how important museums are for encouraging learning.

"A brilliant museum and I don't want to leave"
"What a great resource - what a great opportunity for the children"

For more information about the National Curriculum, follow the link at the bottom of the page.

Out and about
One of the ways we try to make our collections accessible to all is to take objects and supporting information out into the community. Have a look at our Museum in a Box section. Some of these loans are to other local groups and organisations. Many of our events are run jointly with other service providers.
