What can I borrow?
You can borrow up to 10 books and 6 audio visual items if you have provided proof of where you live. [Audio visual items include CDs, DVDs, video and tapes]. You can also borrow items without proof of address please ask for details.
For how long?
You can borrow books for up to 3 weeks and most audio visual items for a week. The date due for return will be given - ask if you are not sure. There are special tickets for disabled or housebound people - please ask for details.
Can I keep items longer?
Yes. You can renew any item for a further period if it has not been requested by someone else. Simply take the item(s) or your library ticket into any library telephone the library during normal opening hours use the automated 24 hour telephone renewal service (01743 252100) or renew via the website, where you can also see a list of all the items you have on loan. For most audio visual items there will be a re hire fee.
What if I forget to return them on time?
You will normally be asked to pay a small fine or re hire fee. Charges are displayed in libraries and on the library website. You can avoid fines by returning or renewing by the due date. Items can be returned to any library listed on this leaflet.
What if I need information?
All libraries have a wide range of information, in books and online. Please ask for help if you need it.
How do I find what I'm looking for?
Fiction is usually displayed in author order and information books by subject. Please ask for help if you need it. There is an online catalogue of every Item in the County Library Service. You can use this catalogue at any library or on the library website. If an item is not available you can request it for a small fee. You can also suggest books and audio visual items that you would like to see in the library.
What if I need to use a computer?
All community libraries have computers that offer free broadband access for e-mails, searching the internet, word processing and other software. This is a popular service so please try and book to avoid disappointment. There is a small charge for printing.
