The ISA child index: security and data protection

Shropshire Council is committed to its responsibilities under the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Acts.

The protection of access to records is very important to the Council and its partners. There are detailed procedures in place for the use and security of the ISA child index.

These include:

  • The information on the ISA child index can only be accessed by people who are allowed to know the information and who really need to know.
  • Practitioners do not have direct access to the ISA child index. All access to the ISA child index is through the Index Administrator and by authorised practitioners.
  • There are auditing procedures in place for the system. This means that all use of the ISA child index is audited. This includes monitoring of who has looked at which records and when.

The ISA child index is a tool to help practitioners to get in touch with each other and work together to support children and young people.

Practitioners must still use their professional judgement to decide whether it is appropriate to share all or some of the information they hold about a child when they contact one another. A Practitioners Guide to Information Sharing is available to help with this.
